NINO PERNETTI'S CAFFÈ ABBRACCI COOKBOOK:
His Life Story and Travels around the World |
| Nino Pernetti, Ferdie Pacheco, and Luisita Sevilla Pacheco |
June 2008 - Since 1988, Coral Gables’, Florida Caffè Abbracci has been a favorite of Heads of State and celebrities alike. From Oprah Winfrey and Sylvester Stallone to Antonio Banderas, David Letterman and Pat Riley, everyone adores the Italian fine dining and chic clientele of this landmark restaurant. Now, for the first time, in celebration of its 20-year anniversary, Nino Pernetti, the restaurant's owner, tells his story of life and love, travel and celebrity, alongside recipes for more than 100 of his best and most popular dishes.
Released nationally, the Caffè Abbracci Cookbook includes favorites from the restaurant: simple standouts that anyone can make at home, like Crostini with Pear and Prosciutto or Mozzarella and Potato Salad. There are recipes that explore the flavors and sea and land: Oysters with Gorgonzola Sauce, Swordfish with Fennel and Basil, Yellowtail with Artichokes, or the decadently earthy Scallops with Saffron. Outstanding and innovative ingredient combinations shine with such dishes as Orecchiette with Pumpkin and Yogurt, Risotto with Strawberries, and Lamb Chops with Cherries, Berries and Wild Mushrooms. The famous tiramisu recipe is included here, as is one for Zabaglione with Wild Berries. This is a book to embrace, to read, and to savor.
A native of the Northern Lakes District of Italy, Nino Pernetti fell in love with hosting people and serving delicious meals in his first job making espresso and cappuccino. Pernetti's northern Italian heritage and later hotel school training at the Gardone Riviera were significant influences on the early formation of his cuisine.
In the book, Nino's takes readers to exotic locations such as Kabul, Caracas, Singapore, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, and Istanbul, as well as throughout Western Europe. His vast international experience led to refinements of his culinary technique, but also created a deeper affection for his native cuisine. Smartly focused on northern Italian dishes, Nino's cooking lingers with the senses, to evoke sea and sky, land and love.
Nino Pernetti is a brilliant restaurateur and a talented businessman. Two things stood central even to his earliest memories: good food and good people.
His commitment to his adopted home, South Florida, is evident by his continued service on the board of the Jackson Memorial Foundation.
Storyteller Ferdie Pacheco, M.D., has worn the hats of family doctor (including a stint as Muhammad Ali's personal physician), Emmy-award-winning TV boxing commentator, historian, artist, playwright, screenplay writer, and author of six books, including Ybor City Chronicles and The Christmas Eve Cookbook. His wife, Luisita Sevilla Pacheco, is a noted flamenco artist, photographer, dance teacher, and writer.
